NCSH 476 Utilities Metering General Industries Outreach Training

A Keene State College Safety Education Center Course. 

Course Description: This program focuses specifically on the requirements of the OSHA Outreach Training Program for General Industry with customization relevant to utility metering employees or contractors. The 2 day course covers essential core and elective requirements of the 10-hour Department of Labor OSHA General Industry Outreach Training Program and delivers additional utility safety training hazards, including the following subjects:

Introduction to OSHA:

    • Walking Working Surfaces (Slips, Trips, and Falls)
    • Hazard Communication (including overview of new Globally Harmonized System)
    • Exit Routes, Emergency Action, and Fire Extinguishers
    • Electrical First Aid and Safe Rescue Practices
    • Bloodborne Pathogens
    • Whistleblower Protections
  • Training and qualification requirements for utility metering employees
  • Workzone Safety Awareness to temporary Emergency Traffic Control.
  • Special conditions and precautions, including capacitors and working with CT’s
  • Electrical Safety related to low voltage (under 600 volts), and storm work with OH lines (over 600 volts)
  • Arc flash hazards (New Standards)
  • Shock hazards
  • Job Briefing Requirements
  • Safety Related Work Practices
  • Specific meter Hazards, i.e. 60 amp sockets, auto by-passes, UG conduit issues, class 320 and 400 amp self-contained meters, network metering, CT metering, Primary metering, CT shunting issues, applying sleeves, testing.
  • PPE requirements
  • Emergency Response for Storms including minimum approach distances,
    downed wires & gradient potential
