Course Description: Radiation Protection assesses and controls human health hazards associated with sources of ionizing radiation: radioactive materials, nuclear reactors and accelerators, and X-ray machines. Health hazards of non-ionizing radiation are discussed. History, standards, regulations, radiation measurement, and radiation control methods are emphasized. Scientific calculators are required for half-life and radiation shielding calculations.
This course explains to anyone responsible for CFR 1910 (General Industry) and 1926 (Construction) compliance, what ionizing and non ionizing radiation is, how to identify sources, perform measurements, identify overexposure, control hazards, and comply with the applicable state and federal regulations.
