Initial Training or Annual Refresher
Course Description: This 8-hour course is designed to build on the First Receiver Awareness course, and meets the OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 (q)(6)(ii) eight-hour OSHA HAZMAT training standard for staff that may have the potential to respond in the event of an emergency. The eight-hour itinerary allows for attendance by individuals seeking annual refresher training to the HAZMAT First Responder Operations Level. Initial and annual refresher training must be provided to all health care personnel who have been designated to provide treatment, triage, decontamination, or other services to contaminated individuals or who may reasonably be expected to come in contact with those individuals arriving at the hospital. In addition to awareness level information, operations-level response-training core elements must include: understanding the hospital emergency operations plan, roles and responsibilities, site safety, including risks to receiving personnel, appropriate selection and use of personal protective equipment, decontamination procedures, group exercises, demonstrations, and hands-on training.
